Since the opening of the Øresund Crossing in 2000, future crossings between Sweden and Denmark have been regularly discussed in the national and international media. With the opening of the Fehmarnbelt Crossing in the coming decade, Europe and Scandinavia will look to capitalise on the opportunities that a further rail and road connection to the European continent brings.Â
In both Sweden and Denmark, with various local, national and international topics driving a need, there is a growing sentiment that a future crossing (or crossings) between Sweden and Denmark should be more seriously examined. Â
A number of possible schemes have had some early level studies completed, these include Helsingør-Helsingborg, Landskrona-Nordhavn, and Øresund Metro has perceived benefits and perceived challenges. Each scheme needs further work to develop to a position of the outright preferred solution
Our think tank, attended by leaders of prominent national and international construction and design organisations, aims to draft solutions to the perceived challenges that can: Â
Address the increase in rail/road traffic on either side of the crossing and also increased pressure on the crossings themselves. We will try to estimate a rough projection of what that increase could be and what could be done to nullify the impacts, such that it is no longer a major concern. Â
Address funding possibilities that could be very exciting for both Sweden and Denmark; bringing together the specific circumstances of both countries, to identify a funding arrangement that works for both.  Â
Consider a sustainable process to develop, fund, procure, deliver and put into service, future crossings between Sweden and DenmarkÂ
